On a conference call with general manager Peter Chiarelli and teammate Gregory Campbell Wednesday, Bruins forward Chris Kelly said that passing up free agency was an easy decision. On Monday the veteran forward agreed in principal to a four-year, $12 million deal that he won't officially sign until July 1 because of what Chiarelli called "payroll tagging issues."
Kelly, who scored a career-high 20 goals and 39 points last season, skipped testing the open market in order to remain with the Bruins. He said Wednesday that it was his plan all along.
