Pats waive Moore, Silvestro; add two others
The Patriots waived cornerback Sterling Moore and tight end Alex Silvestro and signed defensive back Derrick Martin and linebacker Mike Rivera on Wednesday.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Moore, who was signed by the Patriots last October, became a regular part of New England's secondary rotation in 2011, eventually playing a key role in the Patriots' win in the AFC title game when he knocked a pass away from Ravens receiver Lee Evans. The 22-year-old has 13 tackles, one pass defensed and one forced fumble in eight games this season.

PayPal to reorganize, cut 325 jobs
Internet payments company PayPal will cut 325 jobs as part of a companywide reorganization, its president said Monday.
The layoffs will hit PayPal?s product and technology organization hardest. That?s where nine product groups will be collapsed into a single group, eliminating internal barriers between teams formed around products.
?Instead of being organized around projects, our teams will now be dedicated to products and focused on our customers?consumers, developers, small businesses and large retailers,? David Marcus, PayPal president, wrote in a memo that was posted online.
The changes will also hit around 120 contract workers who are based around the world.

This week's sidebar poll: Are you buying a new Nexus?
It's Nexus day, and the Internet is ablaze with chatter about the merits and failure of a series of devices nobody has touched. If you haven't been paying attention, a quick recap.
- The LG Nexus 4 -- the new Nexus phone, priced at $299 for the 8GB version and $349 for the 16GB version. It's pentaband unlocked GSM, with an HSPA+42 radio.
- The Nexus 7 refresh -- the 8GB version has been dropped. We'll see the 32GB version shortly for $249, and the 16GB version is a cool $199. The HSPA+ unlocked GSM version will chime in at 32GB and sell for $299
- The Samsung Nexus 10 -- a 10-inch tablet built by Samsung with a ultra-high-resolution screen (2560x1600). The 16GB version is $399, and the 32GB version is $499.
- None of the devices come with removable batteries, an SDcard slot, or with CDMA or LTE radios.
It's the last line that seemingly has everyone in a tizzy. There's reasons why Google is doing it this way -- namely the LTE frequencies aren't very standard and not everything is licensed in a friendly way -- and we never should have expected a micro SDcard slot in a new Nexus device. As far as the radios, We've also known since we first saw the phone at the FCC that there would be no LTE at launch. But when it becomes official, that's when it's time to consider all the options.
Hit the break and check the poll, or look to the right and see it in the sidebar. Let us know what your plans are, and if you're interested in one of today's new devices. Use the comments to express it all. We'll hash it all out next week.
Speaking of which, here's the results of last week's poll.
What has you excited for the October 29 event?
- The next version of Android -- 39.46-percent
- The Nexus 4 -- 28.84-percent
- A 10-inch Nexus tablet -- 27.04-percent
- Other -- 4.66-percent
It's a shame that the weather didn't cooperate and the even had to get canceled (we certainly don't blame them -- stay safe) because a lot of folks were looking forward to seeing all there is to see about Android 4.2.

Giveaway: Embroidery Floss from Sublime Stitching
Let me tell you a little story about Jenny Hart. She's the founder of Sublime Stitching, the company that brings you all the super hip embroidery patterns (such as this free moustache embroidery pattern), and she is kind of a hero of mine. Back in the early-mid 2000s, she started her company, and she would always share lots of helpful info with other girls online ...

Hurricane Sandy shuts down Google's Android event
Sorry, Android fans, looks like you'll have to wait a little longer to hear more about the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 10. Google has cancelled its Monday morning event in New York City because of safety concerns related to Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to hit the island in the next few days.
On Friday New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency, and the venue where Google had scheduled the event is now an evacuation zone.
Google alerted event invitees of the cancellation with a brief message on Saturday afternoon, urging them to stay safe and dry and that the company would update them later. Google was expected to take the wraps off several new pieces of hardware on Monday, as well as an updated version of Android, but it seems Mother Nature had other plans.

Xbox SmartGlass now available on Android
Looking to extend your Xbox to your Android smartphone? It's now possible, with today's release of Xbox SmartGlass for Android. (Never mind that Microsoft itself said it wasn't coming until 2013.)
In a nutshell, the app connects your Android smartphone to your Xbox live account. From there, you can expand Xbox content onto your phone, control the console, or even browse the Internet, though your phone certainly can do that well enough on its own.
The release of SmartGlass (which also is available on Windows 8) is part of Microsoft's slightly ridiculous (but equally impressive) launch of Windows 8, and coming soon, Windows Phone 8.
Here's to hoping we see Xbox music hit Android sooner than expected, too.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for Android announced
As a part of their 10-year anniversary for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Rockstar Games has announced that the classic console game will be finding its way to Android this fall. The original graphics will be included along with a few "enhancements" for mobile. It sounds like device compatibility is going to be limited for the time being, but they aren't telling us specifics just yet.
The third-person shooter puts players in control of Tommy Vercetti, a mobster who has been sent from New York Liberty City to Miami Vice City after being in jail for a few years. While there's a main storyline, GTA games are well-known for their open-world exploration, allowing you to really soak in an exaggerated, parodied atmosphere of 1980's Florida. Of course, there's plenty of random acts of crime to indulge in, too.
GTA 3 has been available on Android since last December, and is actually on sale now for $0.99 as a part of the Vice City anniversary. Any big Vice City fans out there? How well did Rockstar do porting GTA 3 to Android?
